North Dakota State Government

Why do the smaller government states show the lowest unemployment numbers?

But we think that big government is still the answer to create jobs?
1) Nebraska & North Dakota 4.4%
3) S. Dakota & Wyoming 5%
5) Utah 5.4%
Shouldn’t we be copying what these states have done to succeed instead of copying what California, Oregon have done to fail?
You guys saying that they are all smaller population states and farm are not making a good arguement. THey live the simple life in these states and aren’t taken over by greed and big business, which is supposed to be what you liberals stand for isn’t it? No evil corperations and all that?
Fine compare the big states.
Texas 7.1% 22.2 Million people
California 11.5% 35.5 Million people
And the population and farm arguement is stupid. I live in Oregon which is MOSTLY farms and timber and our unemployment is 12.4% because we have a spend a lot left wing government

When free-market businesses have their own capital at risk, they better prepare themselves for the future — the employ risk-management practices and are constantly identifying possible downturns and subsequent strategies to compensate.

Big Governments don’t have that mobility nor do they care much since it’s not their money — it’s tax-revenue collected every year…like a kid w/ a budget who stretches that last penny at the end of the month before getting another check on the 1st to start the spending cycle all over again.

Texas has an 11 Billion dollar surplus — might want to look to see what they’re doing right as well…

“Texas is the envy of the nation when it comes to balancing its checkbook.

The state government is sitting on an $11 billion surplus and Rep. Dan Branch of Dallas (R) said he knows why.

“The strong oil and gas sector has bolstered our sales tax revenues as well as production tax revenues,” said Branch. “These revenues along with lower property tax rates, reasonable regulation and strong job growth have created a significant surplus while over 35 states, most with state income taxes, are running deficits.”

The fact that Texas has no income tax makes its current condition even more impressive to outsiders.

Consider that California’s budget gap is now at $16 billion and the state is considering federal bailout options.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is also faced with the fact that he’s going to have to do something he’s vowed not to: Raise taxes.

“Our state taxes its residents less than any large state and the legislature has been careful to reduce spending to within population growth and inflation rates.””
