What are my rights as a renter in New York if I have moved into a property with mold growing in the bathroom?
I’m a college student, so I had no delusions of my apartment being the Taj Mahal, but the bathroom has no windows, no vent fan, and lots of mold on the ceiling and walls in one corner and the shower curtains. I will wash the curtains tonight and would have as part of getting myself situated in the new house, but can I ask my landlord to help solve the mold problem? I am afraid to just go ahead and use bleach in the bathroom because it’s so enclosed. As stated, I am living in New York State in Oswego County, if that makes a difference. Can anyone offer me some guidance on how to proceed here?
