Lane County Sheriff

Should I confront the driver whom nearly killed a family member? – no violence?

My grandmother was hit head on by a woman that was under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The woman passed out at the wheel, crosses 5 lanes and hit my grammma head on. Grandma has been in the ICU in critical condition for a week now. The woman has not been arrested as of yet…infact, I was told that one deputy said he isnt sure if the county attourney will even file charges. I am not sure what to do. I want justice for my grandma. I havent called the sheriffs office to as what will happen to this woman or anything…I didnt want to be a pain.
grandma is hanging on. Her pelvis was broken, numerous ribs and knee. she has bruised lungs, heart and liver. I just heard that the womans blood was sent to the wyoming state crime lab. It will be a week until we hear anything about that. I HAVE BEEN THINKING OF WRITING THE EDITOR OF GRANDMAS LOCAL NEWSPAPER…WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THAT? I THINK THIS WOMAN SHOULD BE ASHAMED…

One way to confront the person is to send a registered (you know they got it) letter. That way you can pour your heart out, but do not have a face-to-face confrontation that could get very emotional. If the person is brought to trial during the sentencing phase doesn’t the victim get to address the person?

I would also stay on the law enforcement’s doorstep making sure this case doesn’t just go away. It’s always possible that this person could repeat her actions and next time kill one or more persons. I don’t know if you want to go this direction, but your grandmother could also file a civil suit for pain and injury.

Do you know for sure she was under the influence? I am not sure of your state, but I know where I’m from there isn’t a question about charges being filed in that situation; or at least there is a grand jury investigation.

Good Luck… Remember also to give your negative feelings over to the Lord and pray that this woman get the help she needs. I’ll also pray for your grandmother’s recovery.
