Can a person with a criminal record (theft) become a lawyer in Texas?

My nephew is currently in prison serving a sentence for robbery – with the support of his drug addiction. Always becomes and remains drug-free, can practice law in Texas or is disqualified forever?

A friend of mine went to life and became a lawyer while in prison in Houston – Texas bar and everything. He succeeds, and he paid as a public defender in lawyer fees. It's a win-win situation. Even if your nephew has a history of drug use, you should consider whether this is the right career for him – the law school is very, very stressful, prepare for the bar is even more stressful, having the bar is even more stressful, and tension only increases after starting the practice of law.
