a friend recently found out they had an arrest warrant out for them, much to their supprise, the person in question is a saint, anyway they called the 24 hour warrant line and could’nt assertain what the warrant was in regards to.It’s was my understanding that a warrant was a matter of public record and i was wandering what actions to take to find out this information for them?any other info on pa law in regards to this matter would be very helpful. They have already arranged to turn themselves in.just looking for any helpful info that would expidite the process.should they have a lawyer before turning themselves in?thanks in advance.

None of these answers are very useful… especially the one telling him to make the police promise… are you a complete moron? Make them promise?

Anyways, as someone who has faced down several warrants, I’m assuming this one is for an unpaid ticket or something (if they are otherwise a “saint”). Figure out what day they typically hold court for traffic violations in that jurisdiction and go to the court well before it starts. Most municipal courts will have you sign in with your name and what you are charged with/ticket number/etc… before you go sit down.

When they call you up they will just have the information in front of them and you plead guilty, pay your fine plus the bench warrant cost, and be on your way. If you go to the cops right now… in the middle of the week… you will have to pay bail to get out and then STILL have to pay the bench warrant fee.

If they don’t have the money to pay, still just go to the court. Most courts just want their cash and will work out a payment plan with you. It costs them money to put you in jail. It costs them money to hunt you down. They’d much rather you just show up in court, get it over with, and then work out a way to pay.

Of course, I’m not a lawyer so if you are that concerned, you should probably talk to one.
