Which of the following states, close to New York, has the best beaches to go swimming?
I live in New York.
Im willing to travel as far south as Virginia, as far north as Maine, as far East as Massachusetts, and as far West as Ohio and Kentucky.

I was wondering which state has the best beaches to go swimming. Im looking for a road trip, with a destination where i can go swimming.
Also, Is Long Beach Island in Jersey, a nice place, and would another state provide better beaches?

My favorite states for beaches are New Jersey and Delaware. As far as swimming goes, any Delaware beach, and any New Jersey beach from Asbury Park south except Atlantic City are all fantastic choices. Atlantic City has a tendency to get so crowded you spend an hour looking for a place to lay down your towel. If you have the time, you may want to go to Atlantic City just for its boardwalk, outlet shopping (although Rohobeth Beach in Delaware has more outlets and no sales tax), restaurants, and casinos.
