what to do if I miss a court date for a dui at the state level?
This is in atlanta, ga. I got a dui back in october of 2006, and have had the court date reset a number of times, with it finally being bound over to the state court fulton county so I could have a jury trial. I waited almost 6 months to get a court date when finally they called me to the calendar at the end of november 2007. I ended up getting lost and arriving to court 10 minutes late and they decided to reset my court date again. I talked with the clerk and gave them my current address and they said they would mail me my new court date. Now it is February and I only now have found out today that the summons was mailed to the wrong address and that I missed my court date that was on the 11th of this month. I talked to the administration of the criminal division today who told me that they had thrown out my bond and issued a warrant for my arrest. Luckily, he was merciful and did not turn me in, but I have no idea what to do now. help?
At this point, your original bond has been forfeited. You will have to go through the process of being arrested, and posting another bond. After that, you will be assigned another court date.
